How it All Began
"Brett and I had a class together in high school. We never spoke both we both thought about the other and thought the other was cute. Brett's senior prom came around and he asked me to be his date. That was out first date and the rest was history. I would say it was love at first site. What attracted me to Brett was his fun loving personality. We got married on our seven year anniversary of when we began dating."
How did Brett pop the question?
"Brett popped the question at Forsyth park in Savannah GA in front of the fountain. I knew that we would be getting engaged soon but the day we got engaged I didn't know it was coming. We had taken day trips to Savannah on many occasions so I didn't think anything of it. He did the traditional get down on one knee. We had looked at rings together in the past but he actually picked out the ring 100% by himself. It was nothing like what we had looked at but it was absolutely PERFECT.."
Share something fun or special about your wedding planning phase.
"We had so much fun planning our wedding. I think we had the perfect length engagement; it wasn't too short or too long. We were engaged for eight months. Some of the highlights of our wedding planning were:
1. picking our venue. Fun Fact: We actually booked our venue the day before we got engaged and I didn't even know it was coming. We knew our wedding date in advance because we wanted to keep our anniversary so we went ahead and booked our venue. The moment we arrived at The Wedding Barn at L'Horne we knew it was home.
2. Wedding dress shopping. Brett and I decided not to do a first look at our wedding. The dress was a complete surprise. Wedding dress shopping was such a special day to enjoy with my mom and my two closest cousins.
3. Cake tasting. My husband, my mother, and I went to do our cake tasting. My husband doesn't typically like cake but he was very hungry when we went. With each sample we were given my husband was eating the whole thing while my mom and I were savoring them and comparing our favorites. It was so funny."
Share something fun or memorable about your rehearsal and/or rehearsal dinner.
"Our rehearsal dinner was so fun and intimate. We decided to only have our wedding party and immediate family at our rehearsal dinner because we wanted to keep the venue a surprise until the wedding. Having such a small party kept things very calm and laid back so that the stress levels didn't rise too high and everyone was able to relax. We also brought our dog Oakley for our rehearsal dinner so he could run around and be a part of our special time."
If you wrote your own vows, please share how you came up with them and why?
"We did write our own vows. When we decided to do this, it felt like a daunting task. We searched for months on different tips and tricks to writing them but as soon as we sat down to write them the words came flowing out. It felt so hard, when we first decided to write our own vows, but we are so glad we did because we will have them as a symbol of our love and a beautiful momento forever."
Tell us about your wedding day. What was your favorite part? Would you do anything differently? What would you share with people planning their day?
"Our wedding day was the most stressful and the most beautiful day of our lives. We put months into the planning and to see all of the hard work come together with the help of so many people in our family was truly awesome.
Brett- My favorite part was watching Caroline walk down the aisle.
Caroline- My favorite part of the wedding day is a tie between our first dance and the bit of time after our ceremony when we went to take our first pictures as Mr. and Mrs. Brett and I have always been close and talk as much as we can. We didn't do a first look and didn't talk to each other the day of the wedding. Getting to have that bit of time to just enjoy each other and talk before our reception was very special. After talking about our day, we both agree that the only thing we would change about our special day would have been to try and relax more and not get too hung up on the little things.
Our advice for anyone planning their wedding is to try and relax. Yes, a wedding is a big thing and there are so many small details that go into planning it, however don't get so caught up on all of the small details that you forget the whole reason you are planning in the first place. You are about to commit yourself to the love of your life and spend the rest of your days with your best friend."
If you did First Look, First Touch, First Talk, etc. tell us about it. Would you recommend it to others?
"We did not do any of these. It is totally a personal preference however if someone asked me I would say don't do it. It was so hard not getting to see each other during the day especially with everything going on, but it made the day so much more special."
How was your experience at The Wedding Barn at L'Horne? Is there anything you would change? What was your favorite part of having your special day with us?
"Our experience at The Wedding Barn at L'Horne was amazing. We are both very laid back and that is what we love so much about this venue. There is so much room for everyone to spread out into different areas and still be together. Our favorite thing about the venue is the view. Brett and I both love the outdoors and the views are amazing from all angles. The rolling hills are so beautiful. We would not change a thing about our experience at The Wedding Barn at L'Horne."
